This is my final pictures for my Self Initiated brief at uni-I decided to do a fashion spread juxtaposing feminine lace and masculine shapes.

New York City really has it all
Sunday, 7 March 2010
New York, New York, man I love the city.
Last week I ran off to New York with my university for a few days, the following pictures and links are what I did and where I went while staying in my second favorite city.
Arriving at the Vanderbilt YMCA me and my mate Pidgen had a bit of a fit at our "room" (Couldn't even swing a cat in it, I tried). To get over our shock and disappointment at the hovel we decided to do an impromptu fashion shoot.
After our posing, we felt a lot better and went exploring, starting with the Empire State.
Then we walked about a bit....
Saw Times Square....
And Grand Central....
Spent almost every morning exploring the beautiful Central Park, covered in snow.
Wondering the busy city I had to take a moment to calm down...
In Tiffanys on the corner of 5th and W57th.
My first full day in New York was spent Vintage Shopping with http://www.welshalien.blogspot.com/
We hit:
Global News Inc. on 22 8th Ave and 12th Street for all our fashion ma needs.
http://www.buffaloexchange.com/ 332 E11th Street for some "new&recycled fashion"
No Relation Vintage 204 1st Ave between e12th and e13th for some proper vintage rummaging including cheap 50's furs.
http://www.minknyc.blogspot.com/ for some beautiful unique finds at 334 E11th Street.
http://www.beautycrisis.com/ for a bit of vintage sparkle at 97 1/2 East 7th Street.
http://www.auh2odesigns.com/ at 84 East 7th Street for some new from old.
Pippin Vintage on West 17th between 7th and 8th ave for some amazing vintage jewelry.
http://www.housingworks.org/social-enterprise/thrift-shops/ for all our thrift finds, not quite vintage but the price tag sure shows it and if you take the time to rummage you will find some true gems.
While in the east village I found this amazing bakery http://tullysbakery.com/.
The cupcakes were amazing and the fit guy behind the counter was playing Radiohead and singing along, dream.
Second night in the big city we decided we needed some tequila and nachos, welcome to Mama Mexico.
http://www.mamamexico.com/
$10 for a "Frozen Blueberry Margarita", lord knows where the blueberry flavoring was but the colour and tequila was sure there!
At the end of our meal they also came round and poured tequila down our throats, well if you insist....
Of course being there as a photography student I had to explore the galleries.
The exhibitions at the International Center of Photography (http://www.icp.org/site/c.dnJGKJNsFqG/b.732135/k.D880/Museum.htm) were beautiful, including some original Atget's.
The Public Library on W40th and 5th Ave had a photography exhibition on as well that I found by accident.

And it is 100% worth going to the Tim Burton exhibition at the MoMA. They have pieces ranging from the original drawings for the new Alice in Wonderland to the entire Edward Scissorhands outfit. Total geek-out moment.
On the third night we ended up at http://www.schillersny.com/ enjoying a lethal cocktail called The Delancey (which they kindly tell you how to make on the website) and eating a "friend chicken pork chop", we were intrigued by the name and got exactly what we asked for. A slice of fried chicken on top of a fried pork chop with mash potato, dream.
After our meal we went over to Tom And Jerry's 228 on the corner of Houston and Elizabeth where we danced the night away to their amazing jukebox (not to mention the impressive measures from the bar).
Hitting up FAO Schwarz on my last morning for a dose of the cuddly and sweet I ended up doing some celeb spotting.
Debbie Harry looking fierce in pink.
Karl Lagerfeld just hanging out.
I visited the Joe Strummer memorial wall on the corner of E7th and Avenue A.
The wall belongs to a bar called Niagara where Strummer and other musicians have drunk in the past.

I left with a permanent souvenir, a tattoo on my ankle of the Empire State Building.
I got the tattoo done at North Star Tattoo at 74 East 7th street.

I was inked by the lovely Becca Roach.

My Passion Fans
Another uni project I was given was "Social Groups". For this I decided to look at fans of a band called My Passion and look at how although they are all individuals they have a distinct look and really look out for each. They were all very lovely, even if the music is a bit too loud for me.
